Choose what you get told about
Pick which notifications reach you in the app, by email, or both.
- 1Open Settings from the sidebar, then the Notifications tab.
- 2Each row is one kind of notification, with a short line saying what sets it off.
- 3Two switches per row: App puts it in the bell, Email sends it to your account address.
- 4Changes save the moment you press them - there is no Save button.
EMAIL IS OFF FOR MOST THINGS ON PURPOSE. It is on by default for six, all of them cases where finding out at your next login is too late: somebody is waiting on your sign-off, a bill needs approving, a bill you sent got paid, a bid you priced was decided, an insurance certificate is about to lapse, or you have been invited to quote a package. Everything else stays in the bell until you ask for it.
Notifications marked COMING SOON are ones the app does not send yet. The switch is there so you can see what is planned; it will start working when the notification does.
BIDS. You are told when a sub sends a quote or declines to, when you are invited to quote, when somebody chases you for a price you have not sent, and when a package is awarded. A sub who does not have a SyteNav account still gets the award by email, since the address is on their quote.
TASK UPDATED IS OFF FOR EVERYONE UNTIL YOU TURN IT ON. It is the one notification that can fire on every edit of every task on every job, so it ships silent rather than opted-in: switch on App (and Email if you want it) on the "Task updated" row and you start hearing about status changes, date moves, priority changes and reassignments. You are never told about a change you made yourself. It deliberately does not buzz your phone - the bell and the inbox are enough for something this frequent. Admins can point it at particular roles or people under Who gets told.
Turning off the bell and the email for something means you will not hear about it at all. If you want a quieter inbox but still want to catch up in your own time, turn off Email and leave App on.
ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE A SEPARATE THING, AND THEY ARE NOT ON THIS SCREEN. Every so often we send an email about what is new in SyteNav. That one has an Unsubscribe link in its footer, and it works from the email without signing in - one tap and you are off the list. It stops the announcements and nothing else: invoices, bid requests, schedule changes, inspection reminders and anything to do with signing in keep coming, because those are about your own jobs rather than about us. Subcontractors and inspectors are never on that list at all.
YOUR PHONE. Above the switches is a card saying whether a phone is set up for notifications that pop up on the phone itself. If none is, the card now tells you WHY rather than assuming you have not tried: that notifications are switched off for SyteNav in the iPhone's own Settings, that Apple would not register the phone (with Apple's reason), or that the address arrived but could not be saved. It also dates the last attempt, so you can tell a fresh failure from one you have already retried.
Most of those say the same thing: close SyteNav completely - swipe up and flick it away - and open it again. The phone asks for an address on a cold start, so a relaunch is a real retry. The one exception is permission: iOS only ever asks once, so if you said no, the app cannot ask again and you have to turn it back on in iPhone Settings then Notifications then SyteNav.
SEND TEST. Once a phone is registered, the button beside the card sends a real notification to it - the same way every other notification is sent, so it cannot pass while the real thing fails. It arrives as a banner at the top of the screen, even if you are looking at SyteNav at the time, and tapping it opens the app. If you miss it, swipe down for Notification Centre; if the phone is locked it waits on the lock screen.
If Apple refuses it, the answer says so in Apple's own words and what to change: a key SyteNav's deployment settings have wrong, a key that is not for this app, or Apple rate-limiting us, which is not a fault and clears on its own. A problem at SyteNav's end says so rather than blaming Apple.
