Write a daily log

Record what happened on site each day, including what held it up.

  1. 1Open the project and go to the Daily Logs tab.
  2. 2Start a new log for the day. Add weather, worker counts, and which subs were on site.
  3. 3Answer the daily survey (accidents, delays, visitors, etc.) and add notes.
  4. 4Under "What held things up today?", add anything that cost the day - weather, a delivery that never arrived, an inspection. Pick the kind, say what happened, and where you can, pick the schedule line it held up.
  5. 5Attach photos - you can tag them by subcontractor.
  6. 6Sign the log and save.

A LOG HAS TO SAY SOMETHING. Saving one with only a date on it is refused: a blank entry goes into the count and into the client-facing PDF as a page of empty headings, which reads as "somebody was on site and reported this". Anything real counts - a note, a photo, who was on site, a delay, or a safety or quality observation. The date and the weather do not, because they are filled in for you.

RECORDING A DELAY DOES NOT MOVE ANYTHING. That is on purpose: the people on site are usually not the people who can change the schedule. The log writes down what happened. Anyone who can edit the schedule then sees "Push the schedule for this" on that log, and pressing it opens the delay box with the reason already drafted from your entry - including the day's weather when it was a weather delay - and the log it came from named in it. They say how many days and go through the normal review of what else moves. Nothing is emailed to a sub until somebody presses that button.

Picking the schedule line is optional, and it is the only part that cannot be worked out afterwards - a log has one date and a schedule line has a range, so nothing can safely guess which delivery you meant. Without a line the delay is still recorded; there is just no button to push.

You can post updates through the day; they show as a timeline on the log.

Several entries on the same date group together under one day, so a day with crew submissions plus your log reads as one record.
