Job Money: are you making money on your own job? (subs)

For subs running their own jobs: quoted vs earned vs cost, with live profit and margin.

When you run your own job, your quote is your budget. The Budget tab becomes Job Money and shows the full picture instead of just the quote.

Four numbers across the top: Earned to date (your quote weighted by how complete each line is), Cost to date (materials plus labor), Profit so far (earned minus cost, with your margin %), and Left to bill (quote total minus what the client has actually paid you).

  1. 1Upload your quote on the Quote tab - it is read into line items automatically.
  2. 2Set your Crew rate ($/hr) in the "Where the money went" card. Clocked hours are then costed at that rate.
  3. 3Log material receipts on the Materials tab - they count as job cost (receipts marked as billed to the client are shown separately, not as your cost).
  4. 4Update % complete per line on the Progress tab - that drives Earned to date.

Until you set a crew rate, labor shows hours only and stays out of the cost total, so your profit number is not silently wrong.

How hours are counted: every finished shift on the time clock for this job (clock in to clock out), for everyone on the crew, added together. A shift that is still open does not count until the person clocks out.

Each line item shows its % complete and the dollars earned on that line, so you can see exactly where the money is sitting.

Need to send the client a written proposal? Use Generate Proposal to print a branded PDF of your line items - lump sum, by section, or fully itemized. Your line prices are what you charge, so they print as-is.
