Import your Google Contacts
Read your Google address book into a staging list, label who matters, and add only those to your Directory.
YOUR PHONE BOOK IS NOT YOUR DIRECTORY. It has your dentist, your brother-in-law and four numbers for the same electrician. So contacts from Google do NOT go straight into your Directory - they land in a separate list where you decide who is a sub, who is a supplier, and who is nobody you work with.
- 1Go to Directory, then "Imported contacts".
- 2Press Connect Google Contacts and sign in with your Google account. We only ever READ it - nothing is changed on Google's side.
- 3Press Read contacts. Everything comes into the list below.
- 4Tick the ones you want - or Select all - then use the three pickers to label them: Sub, Supplier, Delivery or Inspector; a trade; and a job if they belong to one. Each picker applies to everything you have ticked. A Delivery contact goes into the Directory as a Supplier, since that is the kind of contact whose schedule line is a delivery. Contacts with no email address are greyed out at the bottom of the list - you can still import them.
- 5Press "Add to Directory". Only those become real contacts.
- 6For the ones you do not work with, tick them and press "Not a work contact" - they stop being offered.
Labelling five people at once only changes what you picked. Setting them all to Supplier will not wipe a trade you already set on one of them.
A contact has to be labelled before it can be added. If you press Add and something is not labelled, it tells you which ones by name rather than refusing the whole batch silently.
READING AGAIN LATER. Press Read contacts any time. Anyone you already added or dismissed is not offered again, so the list only ever shows what you have not dealt with. Changes to a contact you have not dealt with yet (a new phone number, say) come through on the next read.
DISCONNECTING. Disconnect stops us reading your address book. It does NOT throw away the list or the labels you have given - those stay until you deal with them.
YOUR LIST IS PRIVATE. Everyone connects their own Google account, and the imported list is visible only to you - not to your colleagues or your admins. A contact is shared with your company only once you press "Add to Directory". Adding to the Directory needs the Directory "create" permission; without it you can still sort your list, and an admin can give it to you.
